What drew you to the field?

I spent 25 years in community behavioral health safety net, serving the least of the least. Professionally, I have always worked in this field. I love going to bed at night knowing that my work has made a real difference in the lives of others. When we can help someone move towards Recovery, we are not just helping that person live clean, we are helping that person live a life as themselves.

What makes Atlanta Detox Center stand out?

The staff stand out. In almost three decades, I have never worked with a more positive, focused, and friendly group of people. Everyone here is dedicated to the clients and to each other to provide the best treatment we can.

What sets Atlanta Detox Center apart from other treatment centers?

Here at Atlanta Detox Center, we create a customized program based on the individuals needs. We also offer the latest in medical addiction treatment, combined with clinical therapy to provide comprehensive service that treat the whole person.

What draws you to this field?

For years I struggled with addiction issues of my own, which has allowed me to be able to relate to the individuals we serve. It is important to me to use my personal experience to give back and make a difference in our patients lives. I was given an opportunity to change my life around and I want nothing more but to afford the same opportunities for individuals seeking help.

Jess Johnson, MS, LPC and master level RRT practitioner

Clinical Director

What drew you to working in the substance use treatment field?

I experienced trauma and a severe eating disorder from age 12 into my early 20’s. Drugs and alcohol became a part of that picture during my time as a collegiate athlete. I had no intention of becoming a therapist until I walked into trauma informed treatment. I learned I didn’t have to continue punishing my body and that there was true recovery. That personal hope made me add a second major and dive head first into clinical training.

What makes Atlanta Detox Center stand out?

“What sets us apart is the use of true collaborative multidisciplinary teamwork. We have experts in medical, clinical, case management, and operations working together daily to ensure best outcome for each client. And of course we use a trauma informed lens.”

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

“The absolute best part of my job is seeing other people access their best and truest selves; when someone is able to recognize and change a cycle that has been paralyzing to them, my heart is so thankful.”

What drew you to working in the field of substance use treatment?

Like many people, I come from a family that has been impacted by addiction. It was truly serendipitous that my first opportunity to work in the field of behavioral health allowed me to work with individuals seeking healing from addiction. I was never able to witness my loved one attain healing in recovery, but I have had the honor of being a part of this process for many other families over the last 10 years of service in this field.

What makes Atlanta Detox Center stand out?

The environment at Atlanta Detox Center is one of real love and genuine support. Staff here go out of their way to meet the needs of clients, and create a welcoming atmosphere for all who walk through the door. In the field of behavioral health, there is an expectation that you will be met with challenges, and being a part of such a compassionate and encouraging team helps to keep me operating at full capacity even on the most difficult days.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

It’s extremely rewarding to be of service to individuals and families facing some of the most difficult obstacles in their lives. I consider it a blessing as well as my charge in life to serve others. Being called to do this work is a privilege.

What sets Atlanta Detox Center apart from other treatment centers?

Our facility offers substance abuse detox and primary mental health residential services in a brand new plush facility. We are not a hospital setting so the clients feel comfortable and not institutionalized while they are here. It really helps aide in the recovery process. We offer many different ancillary services to support our program to include: yoga/mindfulness classes, experiential therapy, acupuncture, bio-feedback, chiropractic services and music therapy. These services support our evidence based group therapy and Psycho-Education. We do our best to give our clients the best experience possible so that they have a solid foundation for their recovery!

What draws you to this field?

I battled with my own addiction for almost 20 years until I was broken enough to want to make a change. I felt compelled to work in this field so that no one else would have to experience the darkness that I went through. I love my life in recovery and I want others to live as happier, healthier versions of themselves!

What drew you to working in the field of substance use treatment?

I was personally drawn to the field of substance use treatment because of the effect that addiction has had on my life and on my family. There is a need for more understanding about the disease of addiction and a direct need for more support for those who suffer and their families. I feel that this field is one that has been slow to grow in so many ways and the more people who band together to support it the better off it will be in the future.

What makes Atlanta Detox Center stand out?

Atlanta Detox Center stands out because of the individuals who come together each day to make this amazing place run smooth and those who put in their hearts into their work with the clients each day.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

By far the most rewarding part of my job is working directly with the clients and their families. Connections with people is one of the greatest parts of life.

Marc Wiltshire

Alumni Coordinator

What drew you to working in the substance use treatment field?

I was able to create a life of recovery at 22-years-old and it is what gave me my life back. Working to bring anybody who walks through our doors the opportunity to do the same thing brings me joy.

What makes Atlanta Detox Center stand out?

The extensive knowledge about the disease of addition and alcoholism and the understanding each staff member has makes Atlanta Detox Center stand out. Coming into work is a different atmosphere. We feel we give the best opportunity for a person struggling to learn and live, while assimilating back into the family dynamic as well as being significant members of the community and workplace.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

There are countless rewards that come, often daily. Being able to see someone come in day one and completely change the landscape of their life is a blessing to witness. But I think the connections made along the way and getting to know families and being a source of support in treatment and beyond is the most rewarding experience to be a part of.

Jesse Frias

Case Manager

What drew you to working in the field of substance use treatment?

A chance to give back the hope that was so freely given to me. Climbing out of the pits of substance abuse cannot be done alone.

What makes Atlanta Detox Center stand out?

Our team! We keep our spirits high and stay approachable for our clients.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?

Seeing the change our clients make within themselves during their stay. When I pick someone up for treatment, they may be at the lowest point they’ve ever been. By the end of their stay, it warms my heart and makes my job worth while to see the change our clients make to gear their life towards long term recovery.

Therapy Dog

Maybelle was a rescue after being a breeder dog for her first year and a half of life. She is now a certified therapy animal and spends her days comforting and playing with the clients and staff at ADC/ACMH. Maybelle has yet to meet anyone she didn't immediately love. The presence of an animal during therapy is believed to enhance the therapeutic alliance and to reduce anxiety during treatment.
